Strengths: Isaiah Simmons brings very good size to the position with very good length in an athletic and compact build. An elite athlete, Simmons translates that athleticism into elite production and unique position versatility. Displays very good mental processing as a run defender when deciphering when to trigger fast and when he needs to let the trash sort out in front on him so he doesn’t get caught up in piles. Utilizes his elite foot speed to trigger downhill and close space fast whether it be from the linebacker position or as a single-high safety. Understands how to keep himself free of blocks and when he needs to take on blocks to fulfil his assignment in helping other teammates make plays. Foot speed allows him to have an elite tackling radius as a sideline to sideline tackler who can adjusts his angles to track down ballcarriers with ease. Approaches ballcarriers with very good technique as a tackler who shows the ability to wrap up consistently as an efficient tackler who brings good power to his tackles. Elite competitive toughness shows up consistently as a guy who plays through the echo of the whistle and will go the extra mile to block for his teammates when they get a takeaway . Uses his very good length to aid him in being very good in zone coverage to shrink throwing windows when lined up as a middle linebacker and understanding the depth he needs in his drops as a hook/curl defender to force the quarterback to put more air on throws. He shows the ability the be a very good underneath defender in the curl/flat area as well with his ability to gain depth while reading the wide receiver and providing good reroutes of receivers when tasked to do so. Possesses a unique combination of size, athleticism, and coverage skills to be a guy who has the potential to erase elite tight ends in man coverage at the next level. Excellent versatility as a player who has lined up in every spot in the Back-7.  Good play strength and mental processing to be an effective linebacker up the middle. Very good range and coverage abilities to play as an outside linebacker and providing reps at the nickel. Very good ball skills to lineup at safety from both the two-high and single-high alignment as evidenced by his three interceptions and seven pass break ups.
Weaknesses: Simmons comes with few flaws which is a testament to how special of a player he is. Could stand to add 10lbs more to his frame if he is going to play more reps as a LB. Hand usage is marginal when needing to utilize his length to shed blocks. Doesn’t consistently punch the chest plate of blockers to bring the punch to them first.
Summary: Isaiah Simmons is a special prospect that will be a new prototype in today’s versatile NFL. His unique blend of size and athleticism is special and what makes him a rare prospect who has no comparison. Brings very good leadership to a defense due to his championship DNA of playing in multiple big-time games at Clemson. Loves to compete and will be a game changer for any team that he goes to. A superstar in every sense of the word, Simmons will have a chance to be a perennial All-Pro.
