Strengths: Solid size and good overall athletic ability, displaying very good short area quickness and lateral agility with good body control, balance, acceleration and long speed. Very good release ability, with outstanding suddenness off the LOS making him very tough to get hands on and disrupt his route timing. He did not face a ton of press in college lining up mostly in the slot. Very good route running ability, does a good job of manipulating DBs in the stem of the route and shows very good hip drop on route breaks with good acceleration to create separation. Shows solid mental processing to read coverages post snap and find soft spots in zones. Best vs beating man coverage understanding how to get open in one-on-one situations. He is a technical and nuanced route runner. He is super quick in and out of breaks with good technique and body control. He has exceptional footwork and shows good pace variation to deceptively manipulate DBs. He displays solid overall hands and has shown he can make some catches outside the frame. He shows solid tracking ability when working deep. Good YAC ability, using his athleticism and elusiveness to make defenders miss in the open field. He shows good competitive toughness playing with a good motor and shows good physical toughness working the middle of the field. Shows solid blocking ability and play’s with some willingness.
Weaknesses: He can struggle if DBs get their hands on him during the stem with his play strength not being great. Hands can be suspect and he will sometimes let the ball into his body. His catch radius is not that big and he struggles in contested catch situations. He is limited to the slot at the next level.
Summary: Quartney Davis projects to be a number 3 slot WR at the next level. He wins with his ability to separate in the short to intermediate part of the field. He has lightning quickness and makes him difficult to press and cover. He is nuanced and has a good football IQ. His hands are suspect and he struggles in contested situations. He best fits in the slot and that is where he will excel at the next level,
Grade: 3rd round/Starting slot
